Reading at Home

1st February 2017
All pupils are expected to continue to read regularly at home and in school throughout Years 5-8.  Pupils have access to our well-stocked school library both in English lessons and at breaks and lunchtimes.
We would appreciate your help in encouraging your child to read regularly at home.  Please could it be possible for an adult to listen to your child read regularly?  All pupils have a reading record which should be updated regularly.  We recommend that every child reads at home at least 3 times per week for at least 15 minutes and that they read to an adult at least once per week.  Discussing the plot, characters, layout and language will also help to support your child's progress in reading.
If you need any advice about helping and encouraging your child to read at home, please contact your child's English teacher or our school librarian, Mrs Haxell.
Thank you for your continued support in this area.
