Under 11 football vs Northburn (H)

26th March 2015

By Mr Jones

On Thursday 26th March, the Year 6 team entertained Northburn Primary School at home. It was a blowy evening and the game got underway before the scheduled 4pm kick off due to the promptness of the Blues, making the short journey from Cramlington.

It was man of the moment Lewis whole stole the limelight on eleven minutes, coolly slotting away a penalty after Jacob was judged to be impeded in the opposing box. He grabbed his second a few minutes later where he cheekily lobbed the ball over the stranded Northburn number one. Moments before the half-time whistle, Northburn kept their hopes alive when a quick free kick caught Coates off guard, and their forward dribbled close to the goal and passed it into the back of the net. The Blues almost equalised when ex-pupil Lewis had the whistle in his mouth, only for their number nine to hit the outside of the net.

We had the advantage of the wind in the second half, but almost shot ourselves in the foot five minutes in. Aaron made a risky challenge from behind and a penalty was given, only for Carl to stand strong and get a block on the ball and smother it in his hands. Max then made a lovely solo effort and tried to chip it over their keeper, narrowly missing. Lewis grabbed his hat-trick with a well worked goal, Zak unselfishly squaring the ball when in a good position to allow Lewis to calmly tap it in. Lewis then earned his man of the match award with a solid fourth goal, his thirteenth goal in just three games! Northuburn made in 4-2 in the closing stages of the game, after a solid all round game. The wind made it difficult for both sides to gather any real momentum but overall we were pleased with the four points.

We now have one league fixture remaining, against a strong Newminster A team. This will hopefully be played in the first week back. It is a must win game, which would see us leapfrog them to gain second place in League B. We would then qualify to play Bothal (winners of League A) in the semi-final of the championship, the other semi-final being Ponteland vs Chantry A.
