Sport Clubs (extra -curricular)

I hope you have had a wonderful summer with your children. I am initially writing to give some basic information about PE and Sport at Richard Coates this term. Hopefully, the information in this letter will clarify any issues that may have cropped up in the opening week. I have spoken to your child about expectations for PE this term. We have discussed in detail behaviour and expectations, PE kit, injury or illness and general routines.

Below you will see a copy of the timetable for the Autumn term. This is a guide to the activities your child will take part in. It may change from time to time depending on weather conditions and other events taking place in the school.

Throughout the year, there are teams for all year groups, boys and girls, in rugby, cross country, football, netball, hockey, basketball, athletics, cricket and rounders.   We also enter other competitions or festivals in gymnastics, judo, table tennis to name but a few.

Selection for teams is based on attendance at school clubs and performance in PE lessons.

Communications

Over the year, the PE department at Richard Coates will communicate with parents in a variety of ways. Email, phone calls home through the school website and our own twitter account @RCMS_sport (please follow us)

PE Kit

PE kit can be a problem area when students are not organised. Page 7 in your child’s planner gives a detailed overview of what is required. Please can I ask that all items of school uniform and PE kit area clearly labelled with your child’s name. This saves a great deal of time and ensures that any clothing left in changing rooms or around the school can be returned.

Required Indoor Kit – Plain white t-shirt or polo shirt, plain black shorts, white sports or football socks.

Required Outdoor Kit – Yellow and black rugby jersey, black shorts, yellow socks.

Additional warm clothing – Plain black sweatshirt or school PE hoodie, plain black jogging bottoms (no zipped pockets)

Essential Footwear – Suitable trainers e.g. running shoes or football trainers and football boots.

Safety equipment – Shinpads, gumshields, skullcap (optional)

Illness or injury

All pupils must still bring a PE kit when recovering from illness or injury. This is a lesson requirement. This is so that your child can still have some input into the lesson as a coach, official, taking results, analysis or photographs.
